Hi, I’m Cynthia. I created The Simple Fare to capture my adventures doing what I love most–cooking. Here you’ll find from-scratch recipes, cooking tips, and more.
How it all started…
I’ve lived in San Francisco for two years and love calling it my new home. Before landing in California, I moved around quite a bit for work and grad school. In fact, I lived in four places in four years–Connecticut, Paris, Seattle, and Boston. But, no matter how many times I moved in and out of different apartments, I always stocked my kitchen and made an effort to cook.
The more I cooked, the better my food started to taste. Once I realized I could make something delicious, I became more confident in the kitchen, and would cook even more. At one point, I even liked my own spaghetti carbonara over the one made by the neighborhood Italian joint. Now that felt pretty awesome.
Along the way, I discovered that many of my friends really wanted to cook but found it difficult to get started and keep at it. An overload of recipes. The hassle of shopping for many ingredients. And the fear of ending up with an unappetizing meal after all that hard work. These challenges inspired me to share my simple recipes and tips that make cooking at home possible and most importantly, enjoyable. Here are some of my beliefs when it comes to cooking:
- Quality over quantity, especially with ingredients.
- Cooking from scratch is awesome and underrated.
- A well-stocked kitchen plus basic techniques can turn anyone into a good home cook.
And a few fun facts about me…
- I used to have a cooking blog back in ’08 called The Midnight Cook. Sadly, I had to trade writing recipes for writing grad school papers.
- I’m Persian. There is absolutely nothing simple about Persian food, but it sure is delicious.
- I spend my working days as a Product Manager at a tech startup.
So, look around and try your hand at a recipe or two. If there’s anything you’d like to learn more about, just let me know—I’d love to hear from you.
Oh wait…the fine print.
